As a side note that probably does not apply in this case:  if the
power you are sending is DC, great... but if you for some reason
are putting stepped-down AC on the wire (not something I would
do) in a home-brew solution, testing with a spool of wire may
befuddle you - it's a big coil, after all.  I actually used this
once as a way to decouple a machine that generated a lot of high
frequency spikes from another machine nearby - I just wound a
100' extension cord around a tube and used it to plug in the
machine.  :)
