That may be the case. But as I remember (both from my own analysis and others presented here), the Linksys APs are relatively dirty in output, especially past the ends of channels 1 and 11. I'd suspect that a 500mW amp is enough to put these outside of compliance. Perhaps the good folks (:) right) at Hyperlink are just concerned with the FCC?
