802.11g does not interoperate with a.  It is backwards compatible to g.  The
wave of the future is probably the dual band a+g cards because it works with
both the 2.4 and 5 ghz frequencies and incorporates all 3 standards (well g
is not finalized yet) ;).

Well I could be wrong but I was under the impression that 802.11g
could interoperate with a and b. 

Prehaps I need to go read the specs...
