and programs like drac (dracauth) make this whole mail thread moot point. 
Enabling SMTP on an open ap even if it requires authentication seems like a
really bad idea that's open for abuse.

I recently attended a Wi-Fi conference and the air was full of execs from
well known companies checking their POP3 Emails with usernames and passwords
passing about the room in the clear.

A lot of ISP's don't even support SSL thus far.

We have a ways to go on the Wi-Fi security side, both from the education and
from the implementation perspectives.

Personally, I tunnel through VPN so I could care less who's sat there with
Ethereal.
