Thought the list might like to see CWA's idea of reporting the FCC form 477.
Additional info would be tiers of users, number of homes passed, speed
tests, number of users by Zip +4, speed tests and a host of other goodies.

Most of us will, I suspect, agree with the statement that the current FCC477 data are nearly worthless, but this seems to be going a bit too far in the other direction.

ZIP+4 data will be annoying and tedious to get, and in the most rural areas still won't provide the information some people are looking for, in the most rural areas. (A lot of my customers, for instance, only have rural-route addresses, and while there often is a ZIP+4 for it, it's not usually geographically relevant.) This doesn't even address the fact that there will be a pretty hefty one-time expense to get the "+4" part of the ZIP for each of my existing customers.

I'm not even sure where to begin, re: the list of things wrong with this:

"...the Commission should require broadband providers to report the number of customers served by customer category (residential, small business, large business), as well as the number of homes “passed” by their broadband-enabled infrastructure in the Zip Code reporting area."

So, I'm supposed to go out and do population surveys of my coverage area now? (shrug) This probably makes sense for wired providers, because they likely already have this information, but not so much for wireless.

Oh, and I think they're trying to redefine "broadband" again.

Confusion reigns over the land. (Which I suppose is status quo...)
