Mac, Sprint has BRS (and some leased EBS) spectrum, which is the 2.5 GHz allocation. They do not have 2.3 (WCS spectrum). They are doing a LOT with it, in fact announcing Thursday that they will be spending $5 billion building WiMAX in the band (under a service brand name of Xohm), starting with probably the Chicago and DC areas.
Their work with Clearwire is no rumor, but is a widely announced multi-year partnership deal that has Clearwire building the rural and Sprint building the major metros. Clearwire will be marketing Sprint's service. - Patrick -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mac Dearman Sent: Friday, August 17, 2007 8:40 PM To: 'WISPA General List' Subject: RE: [WISPA] Leasing 2.3 or 2.5 GHz Licensed Spectrum Jack, Most of the 2.5 and 2.3GHz spectrum has been being snatched up by Sprint in the last 3 years. They aren't doing anything with it right now that I am aware of, but rumor has it that they are in cahoots with Clear Wire. I have a contract here between Sprint and the local educational facility that shows a onetime payment of $50,000.00 and $250.00 a month. They locked the spectrum into contract for the remainder of the 30 years. It would have been nice if I had been a few months earlier on my quest! A man can find open/unused spectrum if he knows how/where to look in his area. Drop me a line off list or on the member list and I will be glad to share with you what I have learned lately.
