Here is a photo of mine, there are 3 curved ones that look like big pipe
cleaners, 1 on each leg, then the one on the top which points out 4 directions.

Yes. Mine is grounded with 2-ought copper wire running down each leg, bonded
to a ring of ground rods (probably 15 total) circling the tower.

I'll take a picture of mine and post it in a little bit.

Is the thing in my picture the "static dissipator" you're referring to?

I don't think mine is very well grounded at all. I'll have to investigate
that. I would love to put one of these up on every tower, ground it and never
have problems again!!!

The static dissipators need to be taller than the antennas, and VERY well
grounded. They will provide a cone of protection around the equipment under
them. I know of a radio station building that took a hit about every year. He
installed these and has not been hit since, around 10 years. I have some from
Alltec on my tower and have not had a hit.

I have one on the tower at the office.

Doesn't seem to really change anything. Monday I lost one of the APs
on it.

First storm of the year, early Monday morning (2-28), it wakes me up
at 4 AM. It damaged a lot of gear on a grain leg. I remember a product that
is like an upside-down, copper, "Chia-Pet" that you can put on the top of a
tower to dissipate a lightning strike in to many smaller "hits". I am ready to
buy some of these!! Anyone ever used them, if so, do they work and where did
you get them??

          Thanks!!
