so how "dangerous have u been" ... Got any success or not....

dear try checkin the routing table in the WRT54G. If not correect try 
makin a static route.

Else i'l suggest, try this senerio : 
Let the DHCP be enabled in the first router. Connect the cable coming 
in rom the D-Link router in the LAN port of WRT54g >> Disable the 
DHCP of the WRT54G. >> Then try going online hardwired from the 
router >> if successfull try goin wireless.

Revert bak for any query.....
