Hi Gauthier, You've got the right understanding. XML-RPC is a protocol for transporting information in a defined XML format. XML-RPC is just one way of achieving this. Others include SOAP, RSS and Weblogging.
I've been talking a lot about XML-RPC lately in my posts and it was a big part of my presentation at the Conference. It's simply a starting point for introducing you to the potential of Web Services and Witango. Web Services is a big subject and Witango still has a little ways to go yet, but it is obtainable and a reality right now. Keep in mind Web Services is still in flux and standards are still changing and evolving - but so is Witango. v5.0 and v6.0 will compete in this arena in a many different ways. For a quick list of services using XML-RPC, check this out: http://www.xmlrpc.com/directory/1568/services One of the most interesting services that supports XML-RPC is NewsIsFree ( http://www.newsisfree.com ) which can deliver daily News content on just about every subject in the world right to your home page. I would like to start a Witango News Channel in RSS format that I'm sure some may find useful - to submit and publish things like lists of the latest web-sites built in Witango and Witango Product development news. Once you subscribe to a service like this (and it can be hosted anywhere), then your Applications can have instant content published by others. We could have also have a Channel for Witango Developers looking for work or for companies hiring Witango talent. I registered www.witango.org in part for these reasons. When time permits, I'll let you know how the work is coming along. Keep in mind, Phil and Sophie and the all the people at WI can't do it all by themselves. If you want something and haven't seen it yet - why not pitch in. On the subject of Marketing for example, someone at the Conference suggested a great idea of starting an Email campaign: Start writing your favorite Development Magazine and ask for articles on Witango - or even offer to write some yourself. If these people receive enough - they'll pay attention. Cheers.... Hi, Many thanks to both all of you that make this archive available, the new layout is great and smaller, so more content available on the screen(s). I didn't have any knowledge about XML-RPC but the Scott work seems incredible and give another powerfull tool for the Witango communauty. (the xml-extra.net site is also a great thing,) If I've well understand XML-RPC is a protocol used to make 2 server speak themselve (request and response, bidirectionnal), this seems powerfull, does any one can mention some service acutally done with this protocol (that would help me to understand what are the relevant use of this technology...) does a such technology should be used in the development of a shared news module? allowing to automatically (cascadingly) launch update on other sites if a news is added? (all the sites use Witango application server) thanks! Gauthier PS:I will enjoy some materials about the flash/witango integration too if possible ;) ----- Original Message ----- From: Ben Johansen To: Multiple recipients of list witango-talk Sent: Friday, April 26, 2002 11:35 PM Subject: Witango-Talk: EMail Archive... Hi All, The email archive application has been updated at http://www.witango.ws. And John Hollister is the one we all need to thank for all the work he has put into it. I will be setting up SQL Server as the database so that the server will just pop mail from the list and be always current without human intervention ;-) . I will have to take the link offline until I get through with the install and setup. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I also received the data from Jon Grieve at the conference to incorporate the old Tango-Talk and LetsTango lists to turn this archive into a knowledge base. I will also be implementing the great XML-RPC work that Scott Cadillac has done. This will be an online example of the Web Services capabilities of Witango.
