Scott,

Your first message got me thinking. I was certain that the Crontab file was ok -- it has been working for several years. It was your the Server cannot resolve an address or something remark.

I believe I have solved the problem so I will outline my steps -- perhaps it will help someone else...

I phoned our ISP and found the DNS servers are different for the business package so I changed them on our dns and on the Sun boxes. I then did a nslookup from one of the Sun boxes and found that the hostname still could not be found. Using a fully qualified name worked fine. I modified the resolv.conf file on the Sun boxes to add the domain and the nslookup was fine. Then I thought that I would check the tnsnames.ora file and, to my astonishment, only the host name was present. I put in the IP address of the database server and am now hoping for the best -- it will be awhile before I can check the log...

Hi Jon,

Is the datasource connection information dynamically assigned for the
Crontab?

Because if it is, and you're using User Variables, then the Crontab
operation may not be able to access the Variables.

This has to do with the less-than perfect model for State Management between
Browsers and Servers and is not necessarily a limitation of Witango -
because you're going Server-to-Server now and not Browser-to-Server.

Local, Method, Application, Custom and Domain Variables should be fine
though.

Again, just a guess. Hope this helps. Cheers........

Scott,

The Crontab runs fine just gives the datasource error when trying to
execute the taf...
Yes, we are on Solaris and would be interested in lunch...

I think you are describing two different problems right?
~~ Intermittent datasource connection?
~~ Crontab won't run at all?

Because Crontabs are executed by the Server and not a browser on
another
machine, the typical problem with Crontabs is that the Server cannot
find
the address - even if the target is itself.

Try executing the Crontab from a browser on the Server. On Windows
this is
often fixed by entering the target address in the HOSTS file.

And just as a guess, when you add your two problems together it almost
sounds like a Networking issue - the Server cannot resolve an address
or
something.

Just guessing - hope this helps.

By the way, I live in Calgary now - maybe we should do lunch sometime
:-)

Cheers.......

I am getting the following error from Tango -- it seems to be having
difficulty sometimes connecting to the database. This only happens
sometimes -- the same taf runs the next time. Our crontab job always
fails but if I execute the taf manually, it is successful...

[Error] -4 Unable to connect to the specified data source. Verify that
data source is properly configured and that database server is online.
