In the search action there is no like syntax. I would think that contain would be the same as like. I know how to do this with a DBMS which is what I ended up using but if you put a single character in the value part of the search action and use contains you get back the wrong SQL So in the ben example it would bring back Like B%% But it should be Like %B% So Bens test is not a real test. It seems to work fine with more than one character but fails with just one. This seems like a bug.
