Jason,
I don't see the urgency to have it there before server ships. I have every
reason to believe it will be there when server ships.

It is however important to keep in mind that the Mac market for FileMaker is
primarily in the k-12 space and outside that space most everyone is using
Windows. FileMaker is 50% of my business so I have seen the shift over the
years.

I think what the engineers are looking at right now is how to allocate
resources. They need to hear from people that JDBC is important to the Mac
community so they can justify the resources. As a early tester for them and
a FSA member I have made my opinion know and have said loudly that they need
to make this work with release of server.

I will also get on the FSA list when I get back from training and push the
list members to take the same position.

I encourage everyone else who cares about this issue to write to FileMaker
about it.

I am confident in the end we will see at least JDBC.

Dan

Dan,

Good points certainly, but I'm with Roland about the ODBC (or at least
JDBC, as ODBC never worked very well before, but JDBC did) issue. I'm
impressed with the features, but Filemaker has historically been so
entrenched in the Mac market to have them ship a product without a
feature they touted so strongly in the last release seems to be a huge
step backward. It's just too insular a stance to take with their
software - there are too many reasons to make sure it's there; Witango
connectivity is only one. There are a lot of other reasons that
external applications would need/want to connect with FMP, and without
that available I think it will really hurt adoption of this version and
retention of current customers.

Just my 2 cents...

Jason
