I think it got a bit off topic, but I think the point is, it would
solve your problem, and provide many, many more benefits. Also, the
dev studio is so long in the tooth, I think we don't even try to
resolve issues that come up anymore, and just work around.
Another thing to try, can you open your tafs/tmls in like BBEDIT, and
then save to your server with no problem?
