I've read all the responses to this so far and everyone has some interesting points. However, this is the developers side of the coin. The other side is marketing.
Look at what Apple has accomplished in a short time with marketing. I mean really. The name iPod and iPhone and iPad really aren't that creative. But, it's easy to remember. You'll notice too that they aren't really branding Apple, but they're branding the product. Witango's name does need to be changed, but not back to Tango. You want to break free from Tango's troubled past and start with something fresh and new! Speaking for myself, I'm now 12 years older from when I first heard of tango and started using it, so what's fresh and cool to me isn't the same as someone who's 12 years younger than me. I think some marketing research needs to be done on today's developers, and strike the iron while it's hot. It's harder to get someone to change their development platform when they've been using PHP or .net for 10 years or more. But, hitting young developers in university or college will definitely help the product. I suggest education versions for universities and colleges and making agreements with them to get Witango to new developers and expose them to the technology. Web development tools are amongst the hardest to market because of the complexity and the fact it doesn't appeal to everyone. Even web designers who program in Dreamweaver and flash might not even be interested in database programming and web programming. Designers are more artsy type people and less likely to bother with actual programming. I have many ideas on improving Witango with some features I currently use in other platforms that I would like to see in Witango, but I will keep those quiet for now until version 6 is out, and Robert has some time to breathe and be open to suggestions instead of scrambling in the transition phase.
