Dale, We are working on the documentation as quickly as we can. Much of the v5.5 doc still applies, although there are many differences which need to be explained, most notably in the Studio. We will get it out ASAP.
ODBC on Windows should work out of the box. You will first need to setup a DSN in the OS. Since the Studio runs as a 32-bit application, you must use the 32-bit ODBC administrative tool. If you are on a 64-bit version of Windows, this is a little tricky. Once you have an ODBC DSN setup, you should be able to simply to select Data Sources > New Data Source > ODBC and then select the appropriate DSN from the dialog. For JDBC, you must first download the appropriate JDBC driver from your database vendor. Simply install and/or uncompress it wherever you want. Note that you should always use the latest version of the JDBC drivers. You should look for drivers which are compatible with JAVA 6 and are JDBC v4 compliant. For example, the MySQL Connector/J version 5.1 is the correct choice. Once the JDBC driver is on your machine, simply select Data Sources > JDBC Drivers to open up the JDBC dynamic driver utility. Use the appropriate Browse button to locate the JAR file of the driver and close the window. The JDBC driver will dynamically load. (We just added this code recently and it might be necessary to close and reopen the Studio to see the new driver). Lastly, you can use Help > System Info to see which JDBC drivers are loaded (and what versions they are). Once you have successfully loaded the driver, you can use Data Sources > New Data Source > JDBC to load up a database. You will not need to know anything about the driver, but you will need to know the JDBC URL and any necessary parameters. Note that at this time we only support JDBC for MySQL, MS SQL Server and Oracle. I will quickly add additional database support as they are requested and I verify that the driver loads properly. I will also post a compatibility chart on the website soon, which will contain exact version numbers of various drivers, etc. so you know what to download. Though I am waiting for the Mac version, I downloaded and installed the Windows version to fool around with while I was waiting. And now I have questions. Is there any documentation? I couldn't find any on the website. There doesn't seem to be any built into the application I can't figure out how to configure datasources, add JDBC drivers, (or ODBC drivers) etc. On the Mac, if a JDBC driver is located in a particular place, then all programs know where to find them. On this Windows machine, I do have classfile info set up pointing to the JDBC drivers. And have been using them for my Windows 5.5 developer studio. When I select "JDBC drivers available", a black box appears. Nothing else. When I try to add EITHER a new JDBC datasource or an ODBC data source, I get a nice black box. Nothing else. I did try copying my JDBC drivers into the wds6_lib directory, and restarting DS v 6, but no joy. On a different note, I cannot find a "configuration directory" any where, even after starting up Witango 6. ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body. ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body.
