There is a difference between a window manager and a desktop
environment. Window Maker is traditionally the former.

This doesn't need to be built into the window manager. I currently use
notification-daemon, but there are others. Or someone could write their
own.

The only bad thing I've found happen to *Window Maker* is the occasional
crash (and I haven't even seen one of those for a while), and at that
point playing a sound isn't particularly necessary because you are
certainly going to notice.

"Bad things" that happen in individual applications are typically
displayed by a dialog from the application, not the window manager, and
so there isn't really any way for Window Maker to even know to play a
sound.

And what exactly is this "better way"?

Does Window Maker even do any scrolling?

Ugh, please no. I for one would rather use my computing resources for
actual computing, not animating every change to a new window.

Personally, I like it with the squares. ;)

In general, icons are supplied by apps, and the protocols for apps to
specify icons are geared towards raster images.

There might be a place for SVG icons in the places where we set icons
actually in Window Maker, but on the other hand there isn't really any
scaling that needs to be done so it could be just as useful to convert
the SVG to a 48x48 raster image for use in Window Maker.

Personally, I hate that every time I have to use my wife's Windoze
computer.

I don't see middle click resize, but I do see resize with Mod+Mouse
wheel and Mod+right click.

This is another thing that doesn't really need to be in the window
manager, an external program could do it just as well. As far as the
window manager is concerned, it would work just like any other pager.

I for one don't want a desktop environment, or I would use Gnome or KDE.
