Should we change wmii next so it works well in cellphones too?
With respect, I think this is an unfair exageration. 1024px wide screens are common.
If your screen is too small to run all your apps, put them in different views.
That doesn't address the problem. There are good reasons for wanting some apps on the same screen.
Or do you suggest that everyone should sacrifice the sanity their wm just because some people can come up with some absurdly obscure corner case where a completely different window management model might be more convenient, and they can't be bothered to spend 3 seconds(tops) to do it in a float layer.
Again, with respect, I don't think this characterisation fits me or the others that have mailed on this topic. What I suggested does not represent an "absurdly obscure corner" - it seems a relatively common scenario. I don't think I've suggested a "completely different wm model": I am ubundantly happy with the existing model. And if you really believe my suggestions would require any level of sacrafice, I happily retract them.
yes, window movement and resizal still sucks badly both in managed and floating modes, and that is what *MUST* be fixed, and that is something *EVERYONE* will benefit from.
-: OK ... fair point. The issues I've got with trying to emulate rows with floating windows are largely concerned with (1) the difficulties of navigating among floated windows with the keyboard, and (2) the problems posed when floated windows themselves spawn more floating windows. Better handling of unmanaged windows may well, as you say, solve lots of current and potential issues. All the best, Mark.
