What about having always two columns, one for each screen?
This comment prompted me to reply to say I know of at least two situations where it is useful to be able to display a single client/window across screens. One is using complex spreadsheets with many columns, and the other is working with Blender 3D (which has it's own, internal tiling interface). All the best, Mark.
