Get rid of any custom files in ~/.wmii-3.5.
Done.
Press esc a couple of times and see if your ctrl-alt-f1 starts working again. Otherwise, if you upgraded X at the same time, it's pretty likely your problem lies there.
In fact, after pressing various key combinations for a while, X exits abruptly and I get this message:
