Follow-up Comment #2, task #5675 (project wormux):
There is always a software backend. We wouldn't use complex stuff (shader and
co), but roughly only 2D texture and polygons. Something the oldest cards and
OpenGL versions were able to do.
But indeed the real work is the conversion. And I think some parts of our
code rely on reading back data from the ground/... If that was to sit on the
video card, those would be expensive reads through the bus. AGP is
asymmetric, and that would be a slaughter.
Much work, and I don't see it coming without someone with good expertise on
OpenGL.
