Excuse me if this is a FAQ or has been recently discussed. I just signed on
the list to see about this specific problem.
I have WSFTP Server running on Windows 2000 Pro (not server). The machine
is behind a Linksys Router which is connected to a DSL Modem. I am able to
access the net from the machine running the server, but have problems with
others trying to access the FTP server from outside.
Using anon login, the user can log in and get a successful greeting, but
when attempting to retrieve a directory listing, only 59 bytes of data are
sent back to the user. Then it seems everything stops. The user has to
cancel the request, and no attempt to retrieve a listing will work.
I have ports 20 and 21 forwarded to the FTP machine for both TCP and UDP,
and have tried opening a range of ports between 1024 and 1999 for passive
mode, but whether the user is passive or not, the behavior is still the
same. Only 59 bytes and it stops. It also appears that the server will
determine the higher port range on its own, and not be concerned with what
ports are available to it.
A friend of mine has an identical setup, with the exception that his WSFTP
is running on NT Server 4.0, not Win2k Pro. Otherwise the software,
routers, and firmware are exactly the same, and he only has ports 20 and 21
forwarded, and his is working fine.
I've done everything possible with the router config, and searched the
knowledge base at ipswitch and linksys but all their articles tell me to do
exactly what I've already done, and still no resolution.
I did try another FTP Server package and got the same results, so I'm sure
it's not specific to WSFTP but I thought someone here might have had the
same problem once before.
Are there any INI or Registry settings I can change that are not accessible
through the administrator GUI?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
