I wouldn't even use the firewall
that came with XP. Disable it altogether and use either a good firewall like
Norton or a hardware (router) based firewall. If you aren't using a
router, download or purchase a good firewall. Most will automatically detect
legitimate internet access. You shouldn't have to make any adjustments
to a software based firewall. If it's hardware based, you may have to
open a specific port to allow access. From: J. C. Douglas
