Hi,
Here is the story: I uninstalled version 4 completely, then installed version 5. The server is running. When I try loging in as user using ftp pro, it gives me error 530, "incorrect unser name/password", when I try loging in to the manager, same thing.
Now when I try pinging to that IP address, gives me "Request timed out", and the same with tracert.
Here is the question: could this have to do with router/firewall changing configuration after I uninstalled version 4? Is it maybe necessary to reconfigure router/firewall?
The reason is a separate person deals with this part, so I have to instruct in that case.
Thank you for ANY thoughts. Alyssa
The Ipswitch KB seems to be down at the moment. But if you have a system backup dated prior to the change over, you need to export and import into your registry everything that was under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\iFtpSvc. Also the "security"folder needs to be saved and imported into the new installation dir. The .acc files in the server's root dir need to be saved and pasted into the new server dir. I may have forgotten something, but if the previous steps weren't taken, you will have lost your server's key ( if you had generated one)and cert, all accounts, network settings such as IPs, passwords and all, along with virtual domains etc.
The KB is back up. http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/FS-20000629-DM01.htm
V5 installs right over 4.0x with no problem. A complete uninstall isn't necessary. But even if you wish to do a clean installation, follow the instructions on the URL above and /changing/moving servers can be done in minutes. For what it's worth, I always backup my drives to image before making software changes. If I get into problems, or more work than I anticipated for he time I have available, I start the restore process and leave. Within an hour or so, it has restored, rebooted, went online and I'm migraine free. If you have a bunch of accounts on your server, it may be easier to restore your drive to its previous state, then follow the KB and do it the easy way.
I agree with the other poster. Don't get tough with the ipswitch techs who stop by to offer their help--- Pro Bono. Although this is a "self serve" list, I like to read their posts, and don't wish to do anything to discourage them from offering help. Some of them probably do so on their own time.
