Subject: RE: [WS_FTP Forum] Cannot import SSL Cert as Trusted; Cannot access
SSL Options

Hey Erich,

Thanks for the reply. Here's what I've done:
1) deleted the failed FTP host and created a new host
2) assigned a private IP address
3) setup myself as a test/admin user
4) tested FTP access (no encryption): works fine.
5) Created an SSL certificate: successful
6) Attempted to import new SSL cert to the Trusted Authorities section:
got an error: "Adding the certificate to the database failed."

I cannot find any reason for this to fail. This is something that I had running
on this server about a year or so ago and it worked fine. It was disabled for
one reason or another and now the client wants to implement this again. It
should be no big deal but it's becoming a headache. Any thoughts here?

Subject: RE: [WS_FTP Forum] Cannot import SSL Cert as Trusted; Cannot access
SSL Options

Hello Troy,

According to my experience the following reasons can cause the phenomenon that
the SSL and Certificate Management is greyed out.

1. You cannot maintain certificates remotely. You must maintain this with
the WS_FTP Server Manager program on the server itself.
2. The FTP host may be a $virtual host only. You can maintain SSL and
certificates only for the "real" primary host, which has an IP address
assigned. Ensure that this IP address is (still) correct.
3. Ensure that the host name of the "real" host is consistent in the
registry and on disk:
Registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\iFtpSvc\Global]
  "SecurityDirectory"="X:\\Path\\Security"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\iFtpSvc\Domains\WS_FTP_Server_HostName]
On Disk: X:\Path\security\WS_FTP_Server_HostName

Hope this helps in some way. Please note that we work with version 5.05 now,
but as far as I remember, version 4 is not much different regarding the SSL
matter.

Regards,
Erich

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] Cannot import SSL Cert as Trusted; Cannot access SSL
Options

Hello All,
I'm working on a client's FTP server (WS-FTP Server version 4.0) adding a new
FTP site that will use SSL encryption. They already have an FTP site w/ no
encryption which works fine.
I've got the new site to work without encryption fine. When I went in an
created my own SSL cert, signed it, and tried to import it to the Trusted
Certificates section I got an error that it could not be imported. Why? I have
no idea as I followed the instructions to the "T". So, for kicks I rebooted the
server. Now, I can't even access the Configure SSL window. I can access all
other settings (General, User, Firewall, etc.) but not the Configure SSL. I get
no errors or error windows, nothing in the FTP logs or the Event Logs. Nothing.
Any idea as to why this is happening? Any help is appreciated.
