I'm on the opposite side of things over here. I, at least in my opinion, have a great understanding and ability as far as both valid and elegant markup go, and am above average w/ using CSS to make things look like I want, but I've had very little to cut my teeth on other than problem solving here and css-d. Most places I've gone to looking to 'get my foot in the door' either are small companies that aren't looking to add anyone new, or are expecting me to either a) hold a degree or b) have a solid graphic design background as well. It occurred to me while reading this thread that perhaps I've been going about things the wrong way.
