Hi
all
we are
going out of the bounds of web standards with the color schemer
references.
So,
I'll throw my two cents in and tip the see saw way off
balance.
Using
colorschemer, color palette mambo jambo, color my site beautiful, or any
other color scheme generator is like using
a
wysywyg program. It gets the job done, but if you don't understand the
concepts behind the finished product, you are at the mercy of
the
program.
Color
theory is not difficult, but if you understand the basic rules, your site will
not only be more attractive but also more accessible.
Here's
my bit of advice, go out and get the elements of color by J. Itten. He was a
part of the Bauhaus and this book should be required reading for anyone that
starts putting blue next to orange, next to red, next to
whatever.
This
is a fairly expensive book for its size, about $45 on Amazon. So, go to your
local used book store, it probably hasn't been updated for over 50 years. Or
visit your local library, the building with free books to read. If you are like
me, you'll buy a copy and end up giving it to someone that really needs it down
the road.
I
teach photography and always spend a session discussing basic color theory to my
students using this book.
So now
back to our regularly scheduled program.
