Agreed.  Note that although sequential decoding with the Fano algorithm 
(or the Jelinek stack algorithm) are formally "sub-optimal", with 
today's computers the necessary timeout parameter can be set to a very 
large value.  As a result, performance is within a fraction of a dB of 
optimum.
