When WSJT-X is configured to operate your transceiver in split mode, VFO B's
mode must be correctly set. This is a time-consuming operation on some
transceivers, and WSJT-X waits to set VFO B's mode until you initiate
transmission.
WSJT-X provides the option to assume that you've manually set VFO B's mode:
Settings->Radio->Mode => "None"
However, a defect in DXLab Commander when controlling an Elecraft K3 or K3S
resulted in the time being taken to set VFO B's mode even though
Settings->Radio->Mode was set to "None". That defect has been corrected in
Commander version 12.6.7; DXLab users can obtain this version by directing the
DXLab Launcher to upgrade Commander.
When running Commander version 12.6.7 with WSJT-X's Settings->Radio->Mode set
to "None", Tom KQ5S reports that keying on his K3S starts in less than 1 second.

Hi Bill,
Does this apply to TCP as well? When I choose DXLab as my radio it takes 2-3
seconds for the keying to start. If I connect WSJTX directly to the K3S USB
port keying is less than 0.5 sec.

I'm using a Elecraft K3S over USB.
WSJT-X is 1.7.1-devel r7818
The following settings are in effect:
Poll Interval 1s
Baud rate 38400
Data bits 8
Stop bits 2
Handshake none
DTR low, RTS low
PTT Method CAT
Mode Data/Pkt
Split operation Rig
Tx Delay 0.2s
Hi Peter,
you should be able to set the "Settings->Advanced->Tx Delay" to 0.0 but
be careful if you are using an external PA because starting the audio too soon
can lead to ALC overshoot issues damaging your amplifier. Having said that I am
not aware of the K3 having a serious ALC overshoot issue.
Try setting "Settings->Radio->Mode" to "None", you will have to ensure
that you manually set the rig to USB DATA A mode on both VFOs.
I believe that the K3 DSP has to process an internally generated reset
when a CAT mode command is sent even if the mode command will not change the
mode. We have tried to eliminate mode CAT commands if they are redundant. Are
you sure the delay is always there or perhaps only on the first and only Tx?
BTW, forcing DTR and RTS low should not be necessary and will interfere
if the rig is set to respond to either signal for keying or FSK by another
application. I believe both should be left blank.
