Brendan,
Can you share with us what antenna system ur running, however, let’s rule out
FT8 mode as a issue. Please run JT65 for several minutes calling CQ and
hopefully a QSO, then the same running JT9. If you don’t see the high SWR from
those modes indeed there’s something strange going on.
I also suggest you max out your XT power and control the rig output with the
power slider on RC2 keeping in mind that you want see no ALC after you make
your adjustments. What is the power your running in FT8? Recommend 35% of
the rated output.
Please share what your SWR is with other modes and how are you adjusting the
sound to RC2? What ground methods are you using since it’s possible RF is
getting into the PC and causing a fold back SWR protection to take place due to
overdriving.
Share as much info as you can even though it may not seem to be related it
might give us some more insight. Example, USB port sharing?, hibernation modes
turn on or off? Other software sharing via virtual ports?
FT8 is a fun mode and we’re all here to helping hams enjoy this wonderful mode.
