Now that I read the manual on it (aren't directions wonderful?) I see the
information.I normally don't use this so some education was in order.  Perhaps
I was remembering what WSJT did where you had to install it yourself?

In my testing of the release version of 1.8.0 I don't see a cty.dat file get

Creating a new rig "wstjx -r cty" for example shows this in

And "guessing" may have been a little hyperbolic as the cty.dat file has
been very reliable and quickly updated.  Just that prefix->country isn't 100%
reliable and why it does get updated.  And what about compound calls?  I think
it only uses the beginning prefix, right?

HI Mike,

have you tried enabling "Settings->General->Show DXCC entity and worked before
status" without a cty.dat file in the %LOCALAPPDATA%\WSJT-X directory? You will
find it works just fine. The default cty.dat file is installed in the internal
resources area of the WSJT-X application, that way it is not possible for users
to inadvertently delete or rename it and break the functionality.

Do you have an example where a trailing prefix is not assigned correctly? Note
that only standard format CQ and QRZ messages have entity names associated, not
free text messages.
