Thanks but I can't find where to disable the 77 bit options?
In the Settings, Advanced, nothing is checked in the FT8 Message types.
I know I am getting old at 82 but let me know where the disable is.
Hi Maurice,
it looks like replying to a compound call station will generate new
77-bit messages regardless of the "Settings->Advanced->FT8 message
types" settings. This is not inconsistent as the options only force
77-bit messages, i.e. not setting them does not necessarily enforce old
style messages. Perhaps that that is unhelpful, especially for holders
of such compound callsigns. Unless there is an easy fix I doubt this
will be changed since the intention is for everyone to move to the new
77-bit messages for FT8 soon after the General Availability (GA) release
of WSJT-X v2.0.0.
You should note the advice in the Quick Start WSJT-X 2.0 document:
*To make FT8 QSOs with other stations using version 1.x software:*
•Operate in the standard FT8 sub-bands
•Be sure to uncheck Always generate 77-bit messages and Decode only
77-bit messages
•Do not invoke any of the special contest-like operating activities
•Do not operate with a compound or nonstandard callsign, or try to work
a station using such a callsign
The last bullet point should in fact be general as trying to work a
compound call station who is running v2.0 but has unchecked the 77-bit
options will also not work as expected.
