Hi Bill,

Thanks for the quick response.

If you are referring to potentially extending the current ARRL Field Day to
support the three additional letters, I had first thought about that too.
I even saw in the code where you do the validation. However, I bet the
wsjtx developers would have a reason for not broadening the definition of
the ARRL field day contest mode to include that of WFD. You gave such a
reason. It wasn't one I had anticipated though :-)

Would adding another contest to the list of supported wsjtx contests remove
the restriction you cited? And granted, I get that this would take more
time to develop than broadening the allowable characters for the current
ARRL Field Day contest.

BTW...Your suggestion is fine. The trick is getting all WFD participants
to use it. You have likely noticed that not everybody who uses wsjtx for
the mock contests or DXpeditions use the right version or set the wsjtx
contest mode. Getting the word out and getting users to rtfm is a
challenge.

If there is no chance to have WFD added to the list of contests in time for
WFD, then I will approach the WFD organizers and make a plea for a
convention as you suggest. Then, before submitting the log, a string
substitution will need to be made to ensure that A == I, B == O, and C == H.

regards,
Brian
