Hi Mike,

that is a possibility for this very specific case where Winter FD corresponds very closely with the traditional FD format. OTOH, in general, the 77-bit message source encoding is not context specific. Having context specific interpretations of decoded messages can have nasty and unforeseen consequences, as we learned to our cost with the NA VHF contest mode implemented with the 75-bit MSK144 message payloads. In fact avoiding such hacks was one of the prime driving forces for the new 77-bit message payload and source encoding.
