Also there with no transmitter involved.  2nd copy of WSJT-X listening to the 
1st WSJT_X transmit audio device.
But seems nobody cares about getting rid of unnecessary noise (albeit minimal 
it's still noise).

That doesn't mean it's necessarily coming from the code -- the 
distortion could be generated anywhere in the analog chain, from the 
analog side of the D/A of the computer, through the rig's audio stages, 
the transmitter's RF stages, a power amp if there is one, the receiver's 
RF chain and audio stages, to the audio side of the computer's A/D.

The audio side of computers are notoriously lousy. Years ago, I measured 
distortion on the output of a "good" computer sound card as -30 dB just 
below clip, and -40 dB at 6 dB below clip.
