That doesn't mean it's necessarily coming from the code -- the distortion could be generated anywhere in the analog chain, from the analog side of the D/A of the computer, through the rig's audio stages, the transmitter's RF stages, a power amp if there is one, the receiver's RF chain and audio stages, to the audio side of the computer's A/D. The audio side of computers are notoriously lousy.
