What power supply do you have?  What wire running from the power supply to
rig?Be sure to check your power supply connection and clean the contacts.

OK – I gave it a good run last night. After making sure again all sleeping was
OFF, rebooting and even winding my USB cable again on a toroid.

This all made no difference.

In summary again:

At all times, rig control is operational. Audio continues to be received and
decoded. Nothing ever locks up (which is what I typically associate with a
common mode issue.)

The only thing which randomly fails is that upon PTT for Tx, the audio level on
Tx drops to zero or appears on the scope as a USB voice transmission spread
across the 3k width instead of the narrow Tx pattern. In association with this
the Tx power drops back as per the ammeter, I see <2amp being drawn.

To reestablish the QSO, I need to flick Halt Tx, wait for the WSJT-X screen to
settle/redraw (approx. <1 sec) then hit Enable Tx. It starts transmitting
normally again. If I do this double click to quickly it does not come back. So
I have to do it again.

Occasionally this little technique fails to bring back Tx. I need to exit and
re-start WSJT-X and Tx returns to normal again for a while, until the next fail.

Just to be sure -- in Device Manger properties on some devices will have a
"Power Management" tab.

Ensure your network card is not checked for "Allow the computer to turn off
this device to save power".

Also check under the "Advanced" tab and turn off "Energy Efficient Ethernet".

There is, now, no sleep set for any device

As I say, if I jump the config over to running Radio: IC-7300 and com port 6
there is no issue – it never does this.

It only happens (irregularly) when I set Radio: HamRadioDeluxe and
NetworkServer: 127.0.0.1:7809

These are the settings t use the HamRadioDeluxe radioin the WSJT-X radio drop
down

I can jiggle the Halt TX then Enable Tx button to make it come back most times
but sometimes I need to exit WSJT-X and restart it.

I’m usually in the middle of a QSO when it happens, of course. And I can
generally complete the QSO using the above techniques.

I shall report back if this makes a difference.

Next thing to do is turn of all Power Management sleep stuff in device manager
for all of your USB devices and hubs listed.

Also – I can set Tx power to zero and still get the issue.

But I can run JS8Call on 100w if I want (using the HamRadioDeluxe radio) and I
do NOT have the issue.

Sounds like RFI if your USB audio is dropping and comes back on restart of
WSJTX.

Do you have chokes on your USB cable?

What rig are you using?

What does your shack grounding look like?

I can supply some screen shots of my radio.

I have a third behaviour. My trick of tripping Halt and Enable also sometimes
fails to bring the audio back. Tx still occurs but no audio is passing.

If I exit WSJT-X and restart it, audio returns to the Tx.

I notice there is a beta RC 2.6.0 out and I am trying it because it mentions
the HamRadioDeluxe rig control. I certainly notice an issue with the
HamRadioDeluxe rig control and it's not solved for me with 2.6.0 RC

I am using IC-7300 and HamRadioDeluxe radio set in WSJT-X and the latest
HamRadioDeluxe software. It works fine about 70% of the time. But it often
jumps into a mode where Tx power drops and no audio is output. Sometimes there
is audio but the sig output is a vague USB transmission about 1.5-2k wide (up
from the ref frequency). All other rig control functions using the HRD Rig
Control interface work fine with my IC-7300 radio.

I can fix it sometimes by clicking Halt TX followed by about 1 sec, then click
Enable Tx and it goes back to normal. Sometimes this technique fails and I have
to exit WSJT-X and restart it. It works fine for a while again.

If I just go direct via com port 6 I never have the issue. But that means
exiting HRD rig control each time and I certainly like opening WSJT-X with one
click rather than the scramble required to disconnect and reconnect etc. Plus
the logging and multi-casting is important to me as well to use GridTracker.
