That may also depend on RX tuning.
If you put VFO a bit off from reported frequency the audio will appear
in different place.
I do often tune a bit off to get Fox little bit higher in audio for
better copy.
And for the three times R without RR73 and move to higher frequency
(below 1kHz):
Qso is still possible. I have had some Foxes not hearing my R and then I
was moved up but kept giving R for some time (not very long). With good
results; the RR73 has come after a while. I do not know if this requires
something from Fox operator, but anyway I have got proper qso then (no
luck with 3Y0J at all).

John is right. I have never seen 3Y0J transmitting that high. He was
actually below (300-400Hz).
