What is set in stone, stands there.
I do highly prefer backward compatibility, but but fixing this does
not break anything.
While a change would not break anything, it will introduce a change
that will require users to change their operating habits which will
require documentation and user education. Users would need to learn to
tab out of the DXCall input field in order for their connected
applications (like JTAlert) to detect the Callsign change and proceed
with log lookups, xml queries, etc. I can see a significant increase in
user complaint and support messages if this behavior was introduced.
In my opinion is far better for a developer to introduce a timeout check
of the status message into their software, that is how I do it, rather
than having the behavior change requiring many users to learn of the
change and alter their operating behavior.
