Hi Mark, do not want to muddy the waters with what your trying to achieve but yes, it's pretty well as you described, I have three rigs with WSJT-X connected, all Icom in the mix, one has external USB sound card, the others have an internal sound card and CAT from the rig. For me it is ONLY when I go to TX the first time after turning the monitor on (which has its own sound interface in it as it has speakers in the monitor that I have not been able to disable) when I have returned to the shack, I am a SIX metre nut so rigs run 24x7 here.
Audio TAB in settings all show the right settings but it seems that Windows has moved the playing field under WSJT-X, If I change the TX to be default, hit okay, then go back in and set back to the right one, then all is good. It would seem that it just needs to be able to enumerate all the interfaces and rematch to the right one that is listed in the WSJT-X settings list. I hope you get some where with your endeavors.
