What about switching to zenity? It needs GTK, but opposed to KDE, that

Well, I'm not Sören, but IMO it should not be hard-coded to any *dialog
at all.
My current systems, which obviously and admittedly are "historically
grown", are Gnome-free and based on KDE.
Which is probably why I never noticed that kdialog is hardcoded here,
since everything worked for me.
In the future, I'd like to move away from that and use a bare minimum
install providing only the absolutely necessary binaries to my users
(they're using rootless mode, so I don't need a full-blown desktop
environment) - that should significantly reduce the required disk space
and thus make updating/upgrading these distributed systems (spread
across Germany, with some in rural regions with "DSL lite" connections)
a lot easier...
I was hoping that I could do away with dialog-based scripts entirely,
thanks to Alex' willingness to add a much-needed (by me, at least ;-))
feature to X2Go soon, but if there still is a need for some kind of
*dialog, it should be configurable (and I'd probably use Xdialog on my
machines, even though it is currently unmaintained).
