BTW, I think Xastir isn't parsing for 9 chars, it's parsing for 6 on the left of the dash and 2 on the right. Meaning you can't use a 9 character word like "EMERGCNTR" or "BIKECHASR" because it isn't an FAA legal call sign. I'm not positive about that but pretty sure I tried it once and failed.

Probably because the AX.25 spec for the packet header only allows 6
alphanumeric + 0-15 for the SSID.

For Objects and Items you have more leeway.
