I'm using the Occidentalis (Adafruit) distro (it's based on Debian). I just did a "sudo apt-get install xastir" and it was 100%. It wasn't a super long install, but it wasn't quick either. It says it has AX25 built-in, among other things. I don't think it has speech or GPS in the build.
Now I'm working at putting together a bunch of vector maps for use when no internet connection is available.
