Hi Curt, I have the older 62s and have loaded OpenStreetMaps on it by going through the motions on this page. http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl
Mt suspicion is the 64 is not that different from the 62, but without data I am just another clown with an opinion. If I remember correctly I was able to create one secondary map. In the above exercise, OSM is use as a primary layer but one secondary layer could be added. Now I have to go research the 64. A bit off topic I guess, 'cuz this isn't for APRS use. I'm getting ready to buy a mapping GPS. I've dabbled in geo-caching, but hunting / hiking / SAR are the main uses. I prefer Garmin, and have (I think) narrowed it down to the GPSmap 64 and Oregon series. I want the best sensitivity under tree cover, and GPS + Glonass. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the Gpsmap 64st. The 1:100k built-in topo maps are not super-useful, but might be handy when I travel and don't have more detailed maps. I figure I'll buy the Garmin Topo West maps (1:24k) and use those for my main maps around here. Halfway-decent street maps would be a plus for traveling. Anything I need to know about using OpenStreetMaps with any of their newer models, should I later choose to load my own maps instead of paying Garmin for updates? I saw one comment on the 'net about the 64st not being able to load unlocked maps, but I'm not enough of a Garmin nerd to know what that means. Hopefully it doesn't prevent loading OSM maps or others. Any help appreciated! -- Curt, WE7U _______________________________________________ Xastir mailing list [email protected] http://xastir.org/mailman/listinfo/xastir _______________________________________________ Xastir mailing list [email protected] http://xastir.org/mailman/listinfo/xastir
