Thanks Tom.  I'm not sure I seen any written specification for KISS, so that 
helps.  Also, nice signature.  Pipes are always fitting for hams.

This is still not KISS, it's regular ASCII APRS packets. It needs to be
a Serial TNC and not a Serial KISS TNC interface in Xastir.

If it still hangs trying to open the interface, though, the issue is not with
the data but with the serial port configuration --- either something's amiss
with permissions, settings, or the port name.
