Possibly imagemagick is there but the development headers package is missing. On my Ubuntu system I have libmagick9-dev installed for these.

You can checked what is installed with 'dpkg -l | grep magick'.

Dave,

I'm forwarding this back to the Xastir list. I don't have debian apt-get experience, but I bet others on the list do and can help you with that part.

What would your recommendations be - uninstall Xastir, and, if so what command line install switches would you use? Or if I'm wrong about that - how would you recommend checking ImageMagick as both APT-GET INSTALL and Synaptic claim its the latest version? There's no Man page either :(
Thanks

The "Support for these additional map types has been compiled in:"
    you've
shown indicates that ImageMagick is not compiled in.
