http://www.aprs-is.net/javAPRSSrvr/ is designed to do this if you run
your digi in KISS mode.  You run javAPRSSrvr in the background.  You
could connect Xastir to a javAPRSSrvr IGate (or any other type of) port
via 127.0.0.1:portnumber for your own tracking, observing, etc.
Unforntunately some KPC3+ TNC's get screwed up in KISS mode from time
to time - I didn't believe this until it happened to me.  I don't know
if javAPRSSrvr will run on a Mac - I mean I just don't know.  It runs
under java, so it probably will.  Email me off list if you decide to
try this.
