Well Sir... You are the man...
the "chmod 777 /dev/ttyS0" enabled GPSMan to see the Rino which allowed
Xastir to see the rino packets
So I have collected 129 packets from the RINO.... went out for a walk
with the Rino .... GPSMan comes up ever so often ( probably the once
per minute in the Timing menu)....
But nothing is plotted on the screen. I have shapefile maps that I can
see, but no track of the Rino.
Any ideas?
By the way.... what does chmod 777 portname actually do?
Many thanx............. jt

Thanks, Curt...... Both the Rino and GPSMan are set to Garmin for the
data interface and Protocol. ...... Running GPSMan, I still get
Cannot Open Serial Port, but I can see data when running minicom (I did
close it with and with out the -o tag to no avail).
You were running Minicom as root as I recall, which gives you
permissions to open it. Most likely your permissions on that port
are somewhat restrictive.
do "chmod 777 portname" as root, replacing port name with something
like /dev/ttyS0 (whatever worked in Minicom).
