Thanks, Wes...........

Okay... I am confused. I thought waypoints were your position at the time polled. What I want to see is the plot of the locations of all of the RINOs in the range with IDs starting with APRS.

Maybe I have been asking the wrong question.

I now have 200 packets that Xastir has recorded from the RINO.... I have two Rinos right now.. one at the laptop and one "in the field". Presumably those packets are locations. How should Xastir be set up to plot them on the map?

Many thanx................. jt

I'm a bit rusty, its' been a while since I used gpsman. Make sure GPSman is working by opening the gps and telling it to download waypoints - using gpsman GUI interface. Once you are that far close gpsman and xastir can command GPSman to download waypoints and place them into a file that xastir then parses. Note that if you use the fetch rino waypoints, it will only get the waypoints, not your position. You must use another GPS on another serial port if you wish to report your postion, speed and heading. Wes

Hi, Wes, Miguel, and Curt ..........

I have been unsuccessful in using the Garmin Rino 120 units with
    Xastir.

Using minicom set to 4800 8,N,1 and the Garmin Rino 120 set to
    NEMA, I
get readable strings of info. If I change the Rino to "Garmin" and
minicom to 9600 8,N,1 I get characters, but not readable. (If I
connect a KAM to the same port, I get the Kantronics header in
minicom). Therefore, I think the port is addressable.

In Xastir compiled with GPSMan, I get nothing when I click on
    Fetch Rino
    Waypoint.

In GPSMan, clicking on "GPS receiver" with the Garmin Rino 120
    attached
to the serial port, I have tried all the options in "Protocol".
     When I
click on "Check", I get a window that says "Cannot open serial port
/dev/ttyS0". Therefore, I assume that the Garmin signal is never
    getting to Xastir.

So focusing on the Garmin Rino 120 setting options and the GPSMan
setting options, I have not been able to find the combination that
    will
allow anything to appear on the GPSMan screen. The two Rinos are set
on Channel 1, Code 0 and have names of "APRS14" and "APRS13".

Any ideas of what to try or of who I might talk to for ideas?

I have received some feedback that since this doesn't appear to be a
XASTIR issue, I should keep it off the XASTIR mailing list. I am not
sure where to go to seek ideas.

    Many thanks ............. jt
