First off congratulations on the most controversial pull request yet :)
Second I think this might come back to a bigger issue of having "Auto
update Add-ons" on by default (is it I can't remember)  Auto update
tends to make sense for security type patches in programs but in apps
not so much.   If a person chooses to enable auto update then as far
as I'm concerned its buyer beware for not verifying you like changes
before you update it
