CROSS COUNTRY SKI  TRAIL REPORT

November 30, 2001

GENERAL CONDITIONS: 6 to 20" of snow across the region. Possible light snow expected into the weekend.

ABR Trails, Ironwood, MI

All skating trails regroomed except Sulo's. 11 km of tracks set and another 9 km packed and prepared  for tracksetting. The base is 4-6 inches and still a bit soft but very skiable. Our snowfall wass at 14-16 inches.

Afterhours Trails, Brule River State Forest

Is expected to be open this weekend.

Blue Hills Trail, Bruce

The Blue Hills Trail  winter season began with a 10+ inch snowfall on Tuesday, November 27. The heavy, wet snow means we must wait for temperatures to drop to help draw moisture out of the snow.  We are planning to pack the trail with a snowmobile Wednesday afternoon, and hoping to be able to roll the trail Thursday.

Flambeau River State Forest Trails

Expected to be opened on Dec. 1, if there is sufficient snow. The Timm's Hill Trail will probably not open until around Dec. 10.

MECCA Trails, Mercer

12+ inches of new snow in Mercer. Trails will be packed this weekend, but more cold weather is needed to freeze the many bog crossings.  This trail isjust inside a special deer hunting T-zone so wear blaze orange if planning to go out between Dec. 6 and 9.

Telemark Resort, Cable

Our 20+ inch snowfall has packed to a 4 inch (low elevations) to 7 inch base (high elevations) on our cross country ski trails. At this time 23 kilometers of the 65K trail system are rolled and open for skiing.
Conditions are good. Trail surfaces are not hard yet, but they are firm. Moderate nighttime and daytime temperatures have prevented ground freeze so some softness in low areas can be expected  today. Some
snowshoe trails are broken in already.

Totogatic Trail, Minong

The Totagatic Trail is still not open as it has been to warm and slushy.

Valhalla - Teuton and Valkyrie Trails, Washburn

Clean up done on the Valkyrie and Teuton trails (down tree removal) this week and packed and set track on all of the Teuton loops except for C. Conditions are deteriorating with the weather we are now seeing.  No further grooming will be attempted until conditions improve.

Wolverine Nordic Ski Trails, Ironwood, MI

We are currently reporting 5km groomed for skating and expect to groom again on Wed. and get classical tracks set. We expect to have an additional 3km open when our deer season is over on Friday. Further snow and cold temps will allow us to work on the additional 9km, and expect to have them open by Dec 7.
