Snow fans - artificial or
real,
Willi & I met with a rep. from a snow
gun company at Elver a few years ago and walked around. Willi will remember more
of the particulars on the needs for power transformers, number of guns, pooled
water (pond?) as well as continuous a water source (?city water lines). But as I
recall, one of the big hurdles was that the water pressure wasn't high enough
(currently 90 and we need 100 or more I think).
Another hurdle is laying water pipe six
feet deep & installing a series of hydrants. We're talking excavating
contractors with huge backhoes & end-loaders ($$$$$).
As the old Blackhawk ski trail area in
Mazo discovered, it is sometimes easier to make snow in a pile & haul it out
onto the trail. Can we afford the snowmaking equip. and the hauling
machinery?
Before we go full blast down this path
(politically & financially), we need to know if it is even feasible
(physics).
Another consideration is that most
snowmaking needs to be done overnight. Anyone willing to work the midnight to
8:00 a.m. shift???
Ski ya,
